I had a very disappointing experience at Sag Harbor Nails. I called ahead and made an appointment. When I arrived, I found out they only accept cash. The person who took my appointment never mentioned this. I only found out because I overheard him discussing the cash-only policy with another customer and asked about it. When I explained that no one had told me, the technician insisted that he tells everyone. I explained that I work at a bank and would have withdrawn cash beforehand if I had known, but she continued insisting that I had been told. Rather than go back and forth, I stayed quiet because I just wanted to get my nails done. Unfortunately, the service only got worse. I asked for short nails, but she clipped only one hand before starting the acrylic application. When I pointed out that the other hand hadn’t been clipped, she said she would file them down later. Some of my natural nails were left partially clipped and hanging, and when I asked about it, she again said she would fix them after applying the acrylic. Throughout the appointment, she was twisting and pulling my fingers in uncomfortable positions. I needed my nails done, so I stuck it out, hoping the final result would make up for it. When she told me I was finished, my hands were still covered in nail dust, the nails were uneven, and they hadn’t been properly shaped or finished. I told her she couldn’t possibly be done because there was still nail dust all over my hands. Instead of cleaning them, she told me to go wash my hands and then asked if I wanted cuticle oil. Not even a little lotion was offered after the service. When she asked if I liked my nails, I honestly said no. She had also asked if I wanted shimmer before starting, and I clearly said no because I just wanted a simple set of nails. She put shimmer on anyway. Ironically, the shimmer made them look a little better than they did before. The quality of the acrylic application was also poor. The sides of several nails were rough and unfinished, and within a day the acrylic had already started lifting and coming off around the edges. I actually had to file the sides down myself when I got home because they were so ragged. To top it off, when it was time to pay, she asked if I wanted to leave a tip. Even after this experience, I still said yes out of respect and told her $15. She heard me but then asked if I meant $50. I had to repeat, “No, fifteen—one-five.” This was, without a doubt, the worst nail salon experience I’ve ever had. Between the poor communication, rushed and unfinished work, uncomfortable service, and dismissive attitude, it was a frustrating experience from start to finish. I won’t be returning, and I cannot recommend this salon based on my experience. I also paid $217 plus change not including tip.
